Ghegagasse 9-19, 8020 Graz
A home filled with community and music
A big question at the start of going to study: living in student dorm or in an apartment?
Why not just go for the best of both worlds!
The Ghegagasse building has 42 shared apartments! In our 5- or 6-person units, you’ll find mostly cozy single rooms, but also a few double rooms to share.
A student residence is a space for ideas, for independence, for people who don’t just want to live, but want to thrive. Moving into a student residence is a turning point, a new beginning. A place that supports you, challenges you, and changes you. Are you ready?
New freedom sounds good. And it is—along with new challenges, new responsibilities, and new decisions that suddenly fall on your shoulders and which you have to handle in your own responsibility
Our rooms are at the heart of life; you have to embrace them. Embrace yourself, others, and a shared living experience that works when you shape it together.
Independence is part of everyday life here—you decide how you live and how this community thrives.
Our house isn’t finished yet—it’s growing with its residents. Music practice rooms and a large study room are already available, and more common areas are in the works—they’re not just meant to be used but to be shaped together. By residents who want to make a difference together with us.
At Haus Ghegagasse, you don’t just get a room—you can and should make it to your own livingspace.
It’s up to you—sign up and secure your room!
Rooms & Prices
Ghegagasse offers single and double rooms in shared living units. All rooms are fully furnished and equipped with Wi-Fi.
Your living unit has everything you need: a private space in your room and, for communal living, a fully equipped shared kitchen where you can cook, get to know each other, relax, and hang out. It is in your responsibility to keep your apartment clean and tidy so that everyone feel well.
The living units have two bathrooms and two toilets—that beats any ordinary shared apartment.
And so nothing stands in the way of your morning coffee in the sun, every living unit also comes with a balcony.
Location
The student residence on Ghegagasse boasts an excellent location in terms of transportation links and infrastructure.
In about five minutes on foot, you can reach the main train station, which offers both domestic and international connections and also serves as a central hub for trams and buses. This allows you to get to Graz’s universities and the FH Joanneum quickly and easily. There is also a connection to Graz’s network of bike paths.
But the proximity to the main train station has another key advantage: it gives you flexibility. This is especially convenient if you want to catch an early train for a trip or return late at night—for example, after a weekend with family or friends. Since Graz’s public transit often isn’t running yet or has stopped running at these times, you’ll save yourself either high taxi costs or a long walk. The distance between the residence and the station is just a 5-minute walk.
If you own a car: The dorm offers both underground parking spaces and outdoor parking spots. Residents benefit from a 40% discount on the standard rate. Thus, an underground parking space costs only €60 per month, and an outdoor parking spot just €36 per month.
The surrounding area offers excellent infrastructure: numerous shopping options, a variety of dining options, as well as pharmacies and other important amenities are located in the immediate vicinity.

Leisure Activities
Student life doesn’t just happen at the university —it happens in your free time, too. The location of the dorm couldn’t be better: Thanks to its proximity to the train station, you’re perfectly connected for trips—whether across Styria, to Vienna, or even further afield internationally—from Graz, there are direct trains from Venice to Prague, from Budapest to Zurich. At the same time, well-developed bike paths take you comfortably into the city and out into the surrounding countryside—ideal for unwinding on the weekend or after a long day at university.
Everything else is also tailored to students: The supermarket in the train station is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and reliably stocks you up—whether you’re an early bird or a night owl. Around the dorm, a diverse range of dining options awaits you, from international cuisine to Styrian specialties.
And don’t worry: Since we assume that you have familiarized yourselves with the customs and peculiarities of the local culture before your arrival and have had a little taste of the German language: If you are open for new, we’ll teach you what pumpkin seed oil is and why it’s practically sacred here—including a crash course in the styrian dialect: Why the “L” is usually silent in Styrian, or what words like Schilcher or Klapotez mean—all these are skills and fun facts you’ll surely pick up along the way during your studies in Graz. Also, why the Styrian state anthem seems to be with you constantly in Graz, why clocks in Graz have a special meaning and keep the right time even when they’re upside down… Graz and Styria have all this and much more for you to explore. And in a dorm, it's really easy to meet new people—which makes studying and spending your free time even more fun.
Of course, student life involves more than just studying, eating, and going out. In the dorm, you’ll find a laundry room with washing machines and dryers—because fresh laundry is a must. A dedicated study room is available day and night for focused work. And your bike is safely stored in the lockable bike storage rooms, which are currently being spruced up.
But what really sets us apart are our music rehearsal rooms! Renovated, designed, and furnished by the residents themselves, they offer exactly what musicians often desperately seek: a place to practice without worrying about noise.
Whether you’re practicing alone, with others, or just experimenting—there’s room for it here.
We’ve even got our own house jingle—just ask us once you’re here!
